SUNRISE, Fla., Oct. 28, 2026 — Equiti, a technology company focused on equitable access to care, today announced that it has acquired Lexi, an award-winning healthcare AI language interpretation company. The acquisition brings Lexi’s immediate AI language support together with Martti and its network of qualified medical interpreters to help healthcare organizations expand language access across the care journey. With this acquisition, Equiti is building on Martti’s work pioneering video remote interpretation in healthcare more than two decades ago.

Healthcare organizations are increasingly using AI across clinical and administrative workflows, and purpose-built solutions are now becoming available for responsible language interpretation. Equiti sees an opportunity to shape this new modality with the same customer collaboration and patient-first discipline that guided Martti’s development.

Just as Martti was built alongside healthcare organizations to make qualified interpreters available by video, Lexi has been developed with healthcare customers to extend immediate language support into more workflows. The acquisition brings those capabilities together, with human-in-the-loop design, patient safety, and patient experience at its center.

Language access is a strategic performance driver for healthcare organizations, as effective communication influences patient understanding and experience, clinical outcomes, workforce efficiency, and financial performance. A broader set of connected modalities gives organizations more ways to address those needs across the patient journey.

Effective communication is not only essential to helping patients understand and navigate their care; it is also a key driver of clinical, operational, and financial performance for healthcare organizations. Combining AI and human interpretation makes language support more accessible across the patient journey, helping organizations improve care delivery while making better use of their resources.

Equiti calls this approach Modality Matters™: a connected model that allows healthcare organizations to match each encounter with the appropriate modality — immediate, healthcare-purpose-built AI support for approved use cases and qualified medical interpretation where clinical complexity, regulatory requirements, organizational policy, or patient preference calls for a human interpreter. This connected approach provides the flexibility to select – and dynamically shift – between modalities as clinical context and communication needs change in real time.

The combined portfolio will extend language access into everyday interactions that often go unsupported, helping patients and provider teams understand one another across more moments of care.

Lexi provides immediate AI interpretation in more than 35 languages and dialects, with integration options for EHR and phone workflows. Through Martti, Equiti provides 24/7 access to qualified medical interpreters across more than 250 languages and dialects, backed by a 120-hour healthcare curriculum, annual continuing education, quality monitoring, and specialized coaching. Martti University extends that investment with accredited professional development for interpreters and other healthcare professionals involved in language access.

“AI is opening a new chapter in language access, and Equiti is committed to leading it responsibly,” said Maureen Huber, CEO of Equiti. “This is an investment in the next generation of language access, bringing Lexi’s capabilities together with Martti’s human expertise so healthcare organizations can put patients first while strengthening the performance of their language access programs.”

Founded by Linh Pham and Siddharth UR, Lexi was named the 2025 winner of the Peter M. Sacerdote Grand Prize in the Harvard Business School New Venture Competition’s Social Enterprise Track.

“Joining Equiti brings together two teams with complementary experience and a shared commitment to patient-centered language access,” said Linh Pham, co-founder and CEO of Lexi. “By combining Lexi’s healthcare AI expertise with Equiti’s decades of language access leadership and qualified interpreter network, we can support more people across more moments of care.”

“We built Lexi to fit the way healthcare teams actually work, bringing immediate language support into the devices and workflows they already use,” said Siddharth UR, co-founder and chief product officer of Lexi. “As part of Equiti, we can extend that experience across the patient journey and connect it to a broader language access model built around the needs of each encounter.”

Lexi will operate alongside Martti under Equiti, with the teams working together on implementation and integration across healthcare workflows. Equiti will work with each customer to determine how the solutions fit within its language access program, clinical environment, and organizational policies.

“When we founded Martti, we set out to use technology to remove language as a barrier to care,” said Andy Panos, founder of Martti and founder in residence at Equiti. “From pioneering video remote interpretation to advancing healthcare-purpose-built AI, the technology continues to evolve, but the purpose does not. Bringing Lexi into Equiti carries that mission forward and gives us another way to help patients, families, and care teams understand one another when it matters most.”
